KMIZ nail drill bits: what is the maximum speed in rpm?

TECHNICAL GUIDE · KMIZ NAIL DRILL BITS

What speed should you use with a KMIZ bit? For the references in our catalogue, the limits used in the guide are 20,000, 30,000 or 40,000 rpm, depending on the diameter of the working part. A faster nail drill does not allow you to exceed the bit’s limit. Here is how to read KMIZ’s information and find the value for your reference.

Maximum speed and working speed: two different indications

The maximum permissible speed is the rotation limit you must not exceed. The working speed is the setting selected for a particular task, material and technique. The maximum limit is therefore not an instruction to work at that speed every time.

KMIZ’s nail-service instructions give general ranges grouped by diameter. This table does not specify a precise speed for each cuticle technique, each coloured band or each commercial reference.

Find your bit’s limit in three steps

  1. Identify the KMIZ reference on the product page or packaging.
  2. Find the working-part diameter. Do not confuse it with the shank diameter that fits into the handpiece.
  3. Look up the corresponding row in the PDF and also respect the limits of your nail drill, its handpiece and any adapter in use.

Each bit in a kit keeps its own limit

A kit does not have one speed that applies to every component. The guide details professional kit 118445, the Versatile Starter Kit and the Pro Confirmée Kit: check the reference of the bit you are using whenever you change bits.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use every bit at 50,000 rpm?

No. A nail drill’s maximum speed does not increase a bit’s maximum speed. The limits used in this guide do not exceed 40,000 rpm. Always respect the lowest applicable limit for the assembled equipment.

Does an adapter let me exceed the bit’s limit?

No. An adapter does not change a bit’s maximum permissible speed. Check its compatibility and its own limits in the equipment instructions.

Does the coloured band determine maximum speed?

The KMIZ speed table used here groups instruments by diameter. The colour indicates other bit characteristics; it is not enough to select a limit in this table. See our KMIZ colour-code guide too.

Should I always work at the top of the range?

No. These indications do not prescribe one setting for all techniques. Adapt your technique and setting to your training and the equipment instructions, without exceeding the permissible limits.

What should I do if a bit vibrates or shows damage?

Stop using it. Check the mounting and the condition of the bit and handpiece according to their instructions. Staying below the maximum speed does not justify continuing with a damaged tool.
